Best Kind of Skincare Routine for Summer Season

A woman enjoying the summer season at the beach

Now that summer season is here in full swing, it's time to bring out those swimsuits and pool essentials. Although summer is synonymous with fun and entertainment, these months bring increased sun exposure and skin sensitivity.

As such, it's important to change your skincare routine to ensure your skin looks and feels its best at this time of the year. Here's a skincare routine to follow:

Step 1: Cleanse

Begin your skincare routine with cleansing. If you wear makeup regularly, we recommend double-cleansing. Take a few drops of cleansing oil on a new cotton pad and wipe the makeup off your face in upward strokes. This may seem like an additional step, but it removes all accumulated dirt and adds a burst of moisture to your skin. Next, use a water-based cleanser to wash and rinse your face. It's important to choose a cleanser designed for your specific skin type so that it doesn't strip your skin's natural moisture.

Step 2: Tone

Once your face is fresh and clean, take a cotton ball soaked with toner and sweep it across your face and neck. Stay away from the eyes to avoid irritation. Toning is an important part of a summer skincare routine as it helps remove all the dirt and dead skin cells left behind after cleansing. Toners also help reduce pores and restore the pH balance of your skin.

Step 3: Targeted Action

Face serums contain a high concentration of active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid. This helps nourish and brighten your skin and is also known for its anti-acne and anti-aging benefits. Use a dropper to apply a few drops of the serum on your skin, and use your fingertips to dab it gently. Face serums penetrate deeper into your skin make them ideal for targeted issues.

Step 4: Moisturize

After letting your serum work its magic, move to a moisturizer. During the summer season, your skin can get dehydrated and dull; this is why a moisturizer is a must. This will make your skin feel silky smooth. Take a pea-sized amount on your fingertips and gently dab it on your skin.

Step 5: UV Protection

This is one of the most important steps in a summer skincare routine. Direct exposure to harmful UV rays can damage your skin's barrier; find a sunscreen that's within SPF 30+ - SPF 50.
