Artisan Profile
Nepal/Tibetan Himalayan cashmere is noted for its softness. Cashmere is light, soft, and toasty. To manufacture one cashmere scarf, it takes three animals' wool!
Weavers who are blind, deaf, or crippled weave our cashmere scarves and shawls in Pokhara. We work with a local non-profit to offer them the equipment, training, and support they need to weave independently. Disabled people in Nepal face discrimination. They have little or no job opportunities. Weaving gives children independence, boosts their self-esteem, and enhances their family's treatment. The charity also helps the underprivileged and donates white canes, hearing aids, and wheelchairs to the crippled community. These are our favourite pieces for a wonderful cause!
